7/27/2020

ZOOM Online platform for virtual meetings and webinars. (Lot's of great video tutorials and tons of free workshops to learn about all the tools.)

Part 1 of this 'Ask' Podcast Series was an interview with John Losey - Michelle & Chris both leaned heavily on John when they were first learning about the ZOOM platform and virtual group work.
Here is Michelle's Newsletter with her Five Tips and a Link to one of her Virtual Team Building Activities workshops.

Simon Says taught by Scott Gurst and Michelle (cool retro video!) Michelle mentioned she plays Simon Says during online programs.

Mr. & Mrs. Wright - the Online Version is included in this FUNdoing Blog Post. Chris mentioned this one to get participants moving in a fun way. (There are also some great learnings you can pull from this one too.)

What's the Quote? Cards - This FUndoing Blog post has what you need to learn about and lead this activity.

The Number Game - Here is Chris' FUNdoing Blog with all the information you need to lead The Number Game, both Virtually and in person. (Videos of The Number Game in action on ZOOM are included.)

#10: What Are the Pros & Cons of Using Blindfolds?

Trauma-Informed Care - HERE'S a nice article about TIC. Be sure to check out the, The Five Principles of Trauma-Informed Care section to see how closely we (team builders) can align with this practice.

Impaired Vision Goggles - These are not cheep, but if you have access to some of these (e.g., from your school), give them a try with some team building activities. Participants find that being 'distracted' by the change in vision pulls them away from group connection and the task at hand.

Black Bug Eye Glasses - These can be used to impair vision (and much less expensive).

Shutter Shades Glasses - Here's another (even less expensive) vision impairment prop.

Mine Field - (a.k.a., Obstacle Field) This is a classic communication activity (talked about by Chris). The earliest documentation found is in, The Bottomless Bag by Karl Rohnke, 1988.  HERE'S a basic video of the activity.

Human Camera - The earliest write up we could find is in, Silver Bullets by Karl Rohnke, 1984. This is the activity Michelle talked about. HERE'S a Training Wheels blog post (from Michelle) with a link to a full set of directions.

#9: What Ideas and Strategies Do You Have for In-Person Team Building While Physically Distancing?

Word Circle Puzzles - Check out this Blog Post with some information and puzzles you can use. And, check out the Circle Puzzles kits at the FUNdoing Store
Ice Breaker Wheelies - Question Cards at the Training Wheels Store

Make Dice - Look for this App at the Apple App Store (not sure if it's available for Android). You can add pictures, words and numbers to dice in this App.
Here's one of the flip charts prepared ahead of time to use with the Dice Rolling App on the Phone:
Picture
Playing Card App - Michelle talked about her attempt to use playing cards on phones (we're still working this out!) If you have some experience with this, let us know.

Playing with a Full Deck - If you use playing cards in a safe way, there are lots of activities in Michelle's book.
The Invisible Maze - HERE'S a great site detailing the Maze including some videos. (NOTE: This information is not written with physical distancing in mind. When playing, simply keep participants aware of the distancing norms that have been set up.)

Key Punch - HERE'S a nice video of the basic rules. Remember, Michelle also mentioned a variation where numbers were also placed on the 'outside' of the group - some numbers in the center, the group standing around the center, safely distancing. and some numbers are around the outside of the group (e.g., even numbers in the center, odd numbers outside).
